What is Kratom?

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a plant native to Southeast Asia, often used for its stimulant and sedative effects. The leaves contain active alkaloids, primarily mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which interact with opioid receptors in the brain, leading to effects such as pain relief, mood enhancement, and euphoria.

7-Hydroxymitragynine

This is one of the primary alkaloids found in kratom but in smaller concentrations than mitragynine. It is considered significantly more potent (even stronger than mitragynine) and contributes to kratom’s pain-relieving properties.
• Potency: 7-hydroxymitragynine is believed to have opioid-like properties and a higher affinity for μ-opioid receptors compared to mitragynine.
• Effects: It is associated with relaxation, analgesia, and potentially sedative effects at higher doses.
